What to name a blog?
I've always had a problem with this! I admire people who can blithely pick out a personalized license plate, wear a t-shirt with something written on it, or otherwise sum up their lives and themselves in one short phrase. There's just nothing I believe in that much! Or rather, there are MANY things and I can't choose which one to commit to.
In trying to decide on a blog name, then, I was stumped. I started thinking about my life and a short phrase that describes it. This summer, with 3 kids at home all the time, trying to run a new business, and Pee Wee/Bantam football taking any "spare" time I already didn't have, I feel like I'm just barely keeping all the balls in the air. I tried "Juggling Kittens" and "Controlled Chaos" (flattering myself on that last one - it's not even close to controlled), but apparently I'm not the only one who feels this way. They were both already taken.
Then, in thinking of my juggling act, I remembered our 6-month-old lab puppy, Chip. Chip delights us daily with the new and unique ways that he can destroy our belongings/endanger his own life/embarrass us in public. Last week, as he was "graduating" from puppy preschool, he managed to vomit up an entire pair of my 7-year-old daughter's underwear, thereby accomplishing all 3 things at once! These events are so common -- "where's the pad to Josh's football helmet? I don't know, check Chip's mouth!" -- that we even have a new name for them: Chipical. As in, "That's just chipical."
Thinking about it, that pretty much sums up my life. Things go wrong, often. Nothing is done perfectly (or even completely). If the dishes are piled up in the sink and the living room is a mess, unexpected company is sure to turn up. And all I can do is to laugh about it, and say with love and acceptance of the chaos swirling around us: Chipical!

So don't have time to do this, so of course I will. We are moving out of our house finally this week--just in time for school to start! AGH! Remodeling because of a burst pipe. It's not a big deal in the huge, karmic sense of the universe, but in the small, little universe that is my life, I am overwhelmed and in need of Olson margaritas nearly every evening--but too tired to reach the phone and beg for them! Talk about things going wrong--often! I feel as if the summer is over and I have not had any quality time with my children! How can that be? I feel as if my marriage is hanging by a thread and my husband and I, both working on our freelance day jobs (read: trying to pay the mortgage) and both building side businesses (read: college and 3 mat mitzvahs, anyone?) are ships passing in the night. And now I have to start choosing materials for the remodel. I am terrible at those kinds of choices: the ones I have to live with forever! The only ones I have ever liked are my children and my husband (the latter I waver on). Do I sound like a lunatic? Welcome to my life: Chipical just about sums it up. Lisa O: I MISS YOU! I NEED AN OLSON MARGARITA! AGHHHHHHH!!!!
Wow. Summers can be a bit_h! So sorry about the dog & the underwear. Someone can certainly deep throat!
Hope the pipe situation is okay. Was it the kitchen?
Ouch. Been there done that. Just got back from camping (real tents) and real freight trains running past my head every hour all night long....One kid comes home with lice, daughter loses two teeth that weekend. How the hell did the tooth fairy find our tent....twice?!.... And why couldn't the hunky masseure find our tent dammit! Saving grace was hitting the local Mexican restaurant one night and having a Mai Tai and a Xanax. That and my fingers in my ears did the trick for sleeping that night....Now I need a real vacation! miss those Olson Margaritas too.....Looks like September is more likely our next gathering can we do the 6th or 20th? 13th L got tickets for the beach boys at the Hollywood Bowl...UGH...so much for pre-planning! Miss you guys!
WOW - Chipical it is!! Not to worry, Favorite Aunt Sue and Uncle Pat are ready for a visit SOON!! And, hey, margaritas and a boat ride sound GREAT!! Oh wait, our son's wedding is in about 6 weeks and I have to lose 80 pounds by then, so perhaps our visit will have to be delayed until after October 4th. The Chipster is so funny!! Reminds me of Harlie Moose's first obedience class when he was trying to romance the little dog next to us and eating all the other dogs' treats. Needless to say, he was the only one who had do-overs. Miss you all and love you all soooooooo much!! From your children's Favorite Aunt Sue:)
